Stress echocardiography in mitral stenosis: when is it useful?
نویسنده
چکیده
f all valve lesions, mitral stenosis has the most options for ntervention and in many ways is the valve lesion where it is asiest to make a decision that intervention is necessary. his was the first acquired valve lesion where patient ymptoms and ultimate prognosis could be improved surgially even before cardiopulmonary bypass was available. The ndications for the timing of valve repair or replacement are ell presented in the American College of Cardiology/ merican Heart Association guidelines for the management f patients with valvular heart disease (1). Intervention is ecommended in symptomatic patients (New York Heart ssociation [NYHA] class II, III, and IV) with mitral tenosis and a mitral valve area of 1.5 cm (2). Intervention

Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV) is an uncommon anomaly that was first described by Greenfield. Since then more than 200 cases have been reported. In this anomaly, mitral valve has a single fibrous annulus which opens with two openings into the left ventricle. We report a case of DOMV accompanied with severe stenosis in a 22-year old female who had complaints of moderate dyspnea. In transth...
متن کاملStress echocardiography in heart failure
Echocardiography has the ability to noninvasively explore hemodynamic variables during pharmacologic or exercise stress test in patients with heart failure. In this review, we detail some important potential applications of stress echocardiography in patients with heart failure. In patients with coronary artery disease and chronic LV dysfunction, dobutamine stress echocardiography is able to di...

The role of exercise testing and stress imaging in the management of patients with valvular heart disease (VHD) is reviewed in this article. The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology/European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery have recently put emphasis on the role of exercise testing to clarify symptom status and the use of stress i...
متن کاملNon-invasive estimation of cardiac wall stress by using tissue doppler-echocardiography ultrasound images: People with coronary artery stenosis
In this study, a method for non-invasive estimation of stress on the heart wall in the diastole phase is presented using ultrasound echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress on the heart wall as a pre-diagnosis to identify people with coronary artery stenosis. 29 patients with stenosis of more than 70%, 30 patients with stenosis of 50 to 7...
متن کاملExercise stress echocardiography in patients with valvular heart disease
Stress echocardiography is recommended for the assessment of asymptomatic patients with severe valvular heart disease (VHD) when there is discrepancy between symptoms and resting markers of severity. The aim of this study is to determine the prognostic value of exercise stress echocardiography in patients with common valve lesions. One hundred and fifteen patients with VHD (aortic stenosis (n=2...
